International
Money Museum Free-Loan Curriculum Kit
This free-loan kit may be borrowed
from Operation Outreach on a first-come, first-serve basis for two calendar weeks.
Operation Outreach will deliver or mail the kit to the requesting teacher. It is the
teacher's responsibility to return the kit to Operation Outreach within the two-week time
frame. The school will be responsible for paying the return postage.
There are a variety of materials in
the International Money Museum that accommodate different learning styles and grade
levels. The kit introduces the function of money as a medium of exchange. There are
currencies from a variety of foreign countries which students may inspect and try to use
clues on the currency in conjunction with resource materials included in the kit to
determine the country of origin.
The IMM activities facilitate creative
and critical thinking as supplements to units of study in economics, geography, history,
art, math, language, and other social sciences. In completing the Money Mystery
tasks, students research global economic issues, scientific problems, and social dilemmas
of the world's countries. Use Money Mysteries in learning centers, cooperative
learning groups, or as whole-class introductions to topics of study. Assign a Mystery
a day to be solved by the students.
